Assessment of Urban Quality of Life Indicators in Deteriorated Urban Fabric (Case Study: Oshnavieh City)

Abstract

Objective: Today, with the rapid expansion of urbanization and the growing population of cities, increased attention is being directed toward deteriorated urban fabrics, which some scholars refer to as the “hidden wealth” of cities. The aim of this study is to assess the quality-of-life indicators in the deteriorated urban areas of Oshnavieh.
Materials and Methods: The research method is descriptive–analytical. Data were collected through library research, while field surveys and questionnaires were used to examine the existing conditions of deteriorated neighborhoods in Oshnavieh. The reliability of the questionnaire, measured using Cronbach’s alpha, was 0.702, indicating an acceptable level of reliability.Using Cochran’s formula, a sample size of 375 participants was determined and distributed randomly and proportionally among residents of deteriorated neighborhoods (Districts 1, 4, and 5). The collected data were analyzed using T-test.
.Results: The findings of the study showed that the security and economic indicators were higher among the residents of the dilapidated urban fabric of Oshnavieh, but people were not very satisfied with the other indicators overall, so that the most dissatisfaction was related to the physical and environmental dimensions.
Conclusion: The results show that the quality of life in Oshnavieh has an asymmetrical pattern; the physical and environmental dimensions are in a poor state, and the economic and security dimensions are in a favorable state. This indicates the need to prioritize physical interventions, environmental management, health improvement, and socio-economic empowerment.
